Greenstreet Cycles. Sarah Johnson. Omaha Ne.
Dreary and grey. Heavy air weighs on the shoulders of the Creighton baseball players across the street at the new TD Ameritrade field. The clouds beg for a release but their patience is tested. The first droplet is conveniently shed the moment Sarah arrives on a two-wheeler hauling valuable cargo behind her. Sarah, a tempest of energy and Copper, her dutiful golden retriever, illuminate the unparalleled space. As a bicycle devotee, Sarah has curved her passion into a gracious journey, leading her to Greenstreet Cycles, a collaborative idea that began from a simple conversation with a stranger. The garage-like doors made of glass slide open to a whimsy of bikes, accessories and a workshop. Brands such as Masi, Gunner and Terry are parked on the concrete floor. With yoga in the shop, the ladies ride, and supporting bike friendly destinations (a group of businesses in the Omaha that give specials/discounts if you ride your bike there), Greenstreet Cycles has rejuvenated the typical concept of a cyclist. When asked about a possible local “Naked Ride,” Sarah laughs with a half serious sparkle in her eye. At 10am Copper, president of the meet and greet council, takes his position at the front door, while Sarah’s wheels eagerly spin, navigating cyclists at the right speed, in the correct gear, with specific pedal and seat measurements towards her progressive, preferred mode of transportation, guzzling the engine.
